The ICC women’s world cup yet to commence in 2021 is anticipated to witness a strong fight between big teams around the world. As a part of qualification, India entered the tournament directly after Australia, England, South Africa and hosts New Zealand have been into the 2021 world cup based on the ICC points system.
The series against Pakistan last year got cancelled and the split of points allowed the Indian team to lay path into the mega tournament next year. According to the Technical Committee it was a Force Majeure event that allowed both the teams to gain equal points. Hence, India standing at the fourth position of the overall points table is qualified.
There are few other tournaments for the women’s teams that had to be cancelled in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The points got split for the matches between Sri Lanka v New Zealand and South Africa v Australia series which were cancelled due to COVID-19. However Pakistan will be facing Srilanka in the qualification process from July 3-19 in Sri Lanka, and the chances of this tournament is still not clear due to the pandemic.
