Early Breakthroughs Put SRH Under Pressure

The foundation of RCB’s win was laid by debutant Jacob Duffy, who made an immediate impact. The New Zealand pacer struck early, reducing SRH to 29/3 and putting them on the back foot.

Duffy removed key batters Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in the same over, while also dismissing Nitish Kumar Reddy. His clever use of short-pitched deliveries troubled the opposition, and he finished with impressive figures of 3/22, including 13 dot balls. His spell ensured SRH never fully capitalised on the batting-friendly conditions.

SRH Fight Back with Kishan’s Brilliance

Despite the early setbacks, SRH managed to post a competitive total thanks to a superb innings from stand-in captain Ishan Kishan. He played a brilliant knock of 80 runs off just 38 balls, counterattacking the RCB bowlers with confidence.

Kishan built a crucial 97-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, taking apart the spinners with ease. He struck multiple boundaries, including big hits off Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma. Although he eventually fell in the 17th over, his innings gave SRH a fighting chance.

Aniket Verma added late momentum with a quickfire 43 off 18 balls. His aggressive hitting, including a 24-run over against Romario Shepherd, pushed SRH past the 200 mark.

RCB’s Explosive Start Makes the Difference

RCB’s chase got off to a flying start, with Devdutt Padikkal leading the charge. The left-hander played an attacking innings, scoring 61 runs off just 26 balls.

By the end of the powerplay, RCB had raced to 76/1, putting immense pressure on SRH’s bowlers. Padikkal reached his half-century in just 21 balls, marking one of the fastest fifties for RCB against SRH. His aggressive approach ensured that the required run rate never became a concern.

Even after his dismissal, the momentum stayed firmly with RCB, who were well ahead of the game at 126/2 after 10 overs.

Kohli Anchors the Chase with Authority

Virat Kohli once again proved why he is one of the best in run chases. He paced the innings perfectly, combining composure with timely aggression.

Kohli scored an unbeaten 69 off 38 balls, striking five fours and five sixes. He shared a 101-run partnership with Padikkal and later stitched together important stands with Rajat Patidar and Tim David.

His ability to control the tempo and accelerate when needed ensured RCB crossed the finish line comfortably. Kohli’s innings was a classic example of calculated batting under pressure.

Fielding Brilliance Adds to the Highlights

RCB also impressed in the field, with Phil Salt producing some stunning catches. His efforts included a well-judged catch to dismiss Travis Head, a tumbling grab near the boundary to remove Heinrich Klaasen, and a spectacular one-handed catch to send back Ishan Kishan.

These moments not only lifted the team’s energy but also played a key role in restricting SRH’s total.

What Lies Ahead

With this convincing win, RCB have made a strong statement at the start of their title defence. They will next face Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to bounce back as they prepare to take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their upcoming fixture.
