The management of SunRisers Hyderabad has decided to appoint Kane Williamson as captain of the team, placing David Warner as the team player. This decision will be applicable for the remainder of the IPL 2021.
The New Zealand skipper is now appointed as the SRH captain and the franchise announced the same on Twitter. Williamson was captain of SRH in the 2018 and 2019 editions and is set to continue the rest of this year’s season as the captain.
Warner was left back with a notice of 12-month ban for his role in the ball-tampering scandal. Later, Warner was re-appointed captain four years after he had led the franchise to its maiden IPL title in 2016, ahead of the IPL 2020.
Warner has a prolific record with almost 5500 runs at an average of 42.2, hasn’t been at his best in the IPL 2021 in terms of both captaincy and batting. However, he just scored 193 runs from six matches with two half-centuries.
Also, the Sun Risers have won just one match out of six. This led them right down to the bottom of the points table with two points. Warner’s continuation of play will allow the team benefit going ahead in the tournament, said the franchise.
