Gaikwad Ruled Out Of T20I Series With Wrist Injury

Due to a wrist problem, Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad will not play in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand at home. One of the potential openers in the forthcoming series, Gaikwad, experienced soreness in his wrist and was transferred to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for more evaluation and treatment.

The 25-year-old game for Maharashtra took place in the Ranji Trophy. Prior to being hindered by the wrist problem, he had scored 8 and 0 in his most recent game versus Hyderabad. Gaikwad has had wrist problems in the past as well. He had previously been replaced by Mayank Agarwal in the T20I series against Sri Lanka last year after being ruled out for a similar reason.

In nine 20-over international matches for India, Gaikwad, who made his T20I debut in July 2021, has scored 135 runs at a strike rate of 123.85, including a half-century. India is unlikely to appoint a replacement, which increases the likelihood that Prithvi Shaw would take guard against the new ball in his absence.

In the T20I series, which begins on January 27 in Ranchi, Hardik Pandya will captain India in place of a number of regulars, most notably Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Shami. The ensuing games will be held in Ahmedabad (January 29) and Lucknow (January 30). (February 1).
