Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has been sanctioned by the ICC following an incident during the second World Test Championship match against India.
Jayasuriya was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers the misuse or abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during an international match.
The left-arm spinner received an official reprimand, while one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. It was Jayasuriya’s first offence during a 24-month period.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 24, after Jayasuriya was dismissed with the final delivery of the day’s play. As he walked back towards the pavilion, he struck the boundary wedges with his bat.
Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft, meaning no formal hearing was required.

Jayasuriya Becomes Third Player Sanctioned
Jayasuriya is now the third player from the Colombo Test to face disciplinary action during the match.
India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando were previously handed 25% match-fee fines for their involvement in an on-field confrontation on the opening day. Both players also received one demerit point.
That incident took place during the 17th over of India’s first innings, shortly after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal.
Jaiswal walked towards the Sri Lankan bowler and the pair exchanged words. Fernando then moved his head towards the India batter, who responded by leaning forward, resulting in the two players making head contact.
The incident led to disciplinary action against both players, adding another layer of controversy to the Test match.
Jayasuriya’s separate breach now means three players involved in the Colombo Test have received ICC sanctions, with the Sri Lankan spinner’s punishment relating specifically to his use of equipment after his dismissal.
