The Bangladesh Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday directed all broadcasters in the country to immediately halt the airing of the Indian Premier League, reports Live Cricket Score.

The move follows the omission of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad ahead of the 2026 IPL season. In the wake of that decision, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had also raised security concerns and opted against playing their T20 World Cup matches in India, formally requesting the ICC to relocate their fixtures.

The broadcasting ban was communicated via an official notification issued on Monday (January 5) and signed by Assistant Secretary Firoz Khan. The directive covers all IPL matches as well as related programming and will remain in force until further notice.

According to the notification, the ministry took note of the decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to exclude Mustafizur from KKR for the IPL season scheduled to begin on March 26, 2026.

“No reasonable justification for such a decision is known,” the notice stated. “This decision has hurt, distressed and angered the people of Bangladesh.”

“In these circumstances, it is hereby requested, by order, that the broadcast and transmission of all matches and programmes of the Indian Premier League be stopped until further instructions,” the statement added, noting that the directive was issued in the public interest with the approval of the competent authorities.
