The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced their 15-member Test squad, including pacers Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai and Nijat Masoud and young legspinner Izharulhaq, for the upcoming one-off Test match against Bangladesh. Rashid Khan was rested for the match, which is set to start on June 14 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Rashid’s absence was unexpected given that he was the star of the last Test match between the two nations, taking 11 wickets to help his team secure the historic victory over the hosts in Chattogram in 2019.

According to Live Cricket Score, Rashid recently skipped the first two One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka but returned to play the last game, which his team lost. “Having played too much non-stop cricket, Rashid was given a rest for the lone Test match against Bangladesh because we didn’t want to put his back injury at risk.,” Afghanistan assistant coach Raees Ahmadzai told Cricbuzz on Wednesday (June 7).

Ahmadzai said they are excited to witness how their young spin prodigy Izharulhaq handles the pressures of international cricket.
