Rashid Khan will miss the three-match T20I series against India, captain Ibrahim Zadra confirmed on the eve of the first match in Mohali. The 25-year-old, who recently underwent back surgery, has not yet recovered but is travelling with the team.
“He’s not completely fit, but he’s travelling with us. He is doing his rehabilitation, and we hope he recovers as quickly as possible.”We will miss him in this series. Without Rashid, we will have difficulties because his experience is invaluable. Still, even in his absence, we have quality players like Mujeeb [Ur Rahman], [Mohammad] Nabi, Noor [Ahmad] and Qais [Ahmad]. a lot of cricket, and we trust them,” Zadran said at the press conference on Wednesday (January 10).
Zadran also said that his team needs to improve their batting to have a chance against India at home. The hosts have called up players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are keen to prove their worth to the team ahead of the T20 World Cup.
“We have good spinners and seamers, but we need to improve our batting skills; we will try to be more aggressive in this area. We played wonderful cricket in the World Cup. Afghan people around the world expect us to do well,” he said.
After the first T20I in Mohali, the teams will face each other in the second T20I in Indore before the third and final T20I in Bengaluru.
