BCCI Prepares Three Contingency Schedules for IPL 2025 Resumption

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has drafted three possible schedules to restart the currently suspended IPL 2025 season. A final decision is expected later on Monday (May 12). The IPL Governing Council is slated to meet in the afternoon to chart a concrete plan for the league’s resumption, reports Live Cricket Score.

Sixteen matches remain in the tournament, including the four crucial playoff fixtures.

Among the proposed options, one follows the conventional home-and-away format across all venues, though Dharamsala may be excluded for logistical and safety reasons. The other two blueprints revolve around centralising the remainder of the tournament in fewer venues — most likely in South India, with Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai emerging as the frontrunners. Reached out to the respective state cricket associations, but none have received any official communication from the BCCI.

An announcement is expected within hours, and there is growing speculation that the league will resume later this week, potentially on May 16 or 17. While no formal statement has been released, franchises have reportedly received subtle directions from both IPL and BCCI officials to begin regrouping at their respective team bases in anticipation of the league’s restart.

Interestingly, the Governing Council members themselves have yet to receive an official meeting notice, but such meetings have been known to be convened at very short notice, as was the case during the league’s sudden suspension, when a meeting was called at 10:45 AM and concluded by 11 AM.

Considering the current situation, the BCCI may opt to restrict the tournament to a limited number of venues to streamline logistics and minimise operational risks. However, no definitive signals have emerged on this front yet.

One challenge the league may face upon resumption is the potential absence of several overseas players who exited the country amid last week’s unrest. While their return remains uncertain, the BCCI is focused on seeing the tournament through to its conclusion — even if it means proceeding with a reduced international presence. It’s a situation without precedent, and the BCCI appears determined to navigate it with flexibility and resolve.
